Remote game review: SCRAP: Escape from the Lockdown: The Demon Fortress

Official website

Format: Browser-based, play-at-your-own-pace
Price: 3,000 yen per ticket
Gameplay duration: As long as you need; their estimated time is 2 to 3 hours

If you enjoyed the first game in SCRAP’s Escape from the Lockdown series, The Strange Village, then you’ll enjoy The Demon Fortress too. The Demon Fortress shares many similarities with its predecessor, and improves upon it in at least one aspect: the input mechanism, which is now more open-ended.

The mini puzzles remain logical, if forgettable. As with The Strange Village, the real focus here is the central narrative-driven puzzle thread, aided by cute and campy video segments. On that front, it was thoroughly engaging, with some great narrative twists along the way.

This game is best enjoyed if you’re after a fun problem-solving adventure rather than traditional escape room puzzles. While I’d still prioritise SCRAP’s interactive remote games, if you’re looking for a substantial narrative-powered puzzling experience that you can play alone and/or at your own pace, The Demon Fortress is RECOMMENDED.
